Kids Classes and Workshops

Do you teach kids to knit or crochet?

Yes, we are accredited Knitting For All teachers. We teach both knitting and crochet.

We run a number of after school classes (see below) and also offer private lessons, including parent and child sessions.

What age must my child be to attend classes?

Our "Kids Knit" classes go from P3 to P7, and our "Young People Knit" (YPK) class goes from S1 to S6. We don’t mix primary and secondary school kids in our regular after school classes, however our holiday workshops and private classes are open to both. Some holiday workshops are suitable for P1+ kids and will be advertised as such.

How big are the classes?

Our regular after school kids classes have a maximum of 8 places available. If a class shows as "Sold Out", you may email us to be added to the waiting list for that class.

Our private classes can cater for up to 6 siblings or friends, while our parent & child classes cater for 1 adult and up to 5 kids.

What do they need to bring with?

Regular after school classes include all materials. Your child will also receive a project bag and pattern folder which they should bring to class every week. They can bring a water bottle along, but please keep the juice and snacks at home. Sticky juice spills and yarn don't go well together.

When booking a private class, you have the option to include materials or bring your own. We recommend including materials for the first few weeks. Once it's clear they are keen to continue with classes, we'll send you recommendations for materials to buy.

Will they learn how to crochet?

Although the program we follow is called "Kids Knit" and "Young People Knit", we encourage them to learn both knitting and crochet. They may start with either, then switch once they've gotten the hang of the basics. This gives them the opportunity to discover if they prefer one over the other, but also means they are equipped to make any pattern they may fall in love with.

What about safety?

We are delighted when your child joins us for a craft workshop or class, so your child’s safety is of utmost importance to us. For this reason we have drawn up some Safety Rules for them to follow to ensure they have a good time in class. Please take a moment to go through them with your child before they arrive for their class.

For your child’s safety and for the safety of other children in the class, any child who behaves in a disruptive or dangerous way won’t be allowed to continue. Children excluded for these reasons won’t receive a refund for missed classes.

What happens if I'm running late to pick up?

Craft sum More is not responsible for your child out with class times. Your child should arrive on time (not early) and should be collected on time. If the person who is collecting your child is going to be a few minutes late, please let us know as soon as possible. Where a child is not collected from a class after 15 minutes, Social Services will be called to take responsibility for the child.

Are you insured?

All teachers hold current PVG Certificates and are fully insured. We carry out risk assessments at all our venues. However our teachers DO NOT have first aid certificates. If you are at all concerned that your child might get into medical difficulties because of serious allergies, asthma or other medical conditions, they should not come to the class.

Can I watch my child in class?

Sometimes parents ask to sit in and watch an after school class. This is not something we encourage as it changes the dynamics of the class. It is also sometimes not possible due to the size of the venue being used. However, if your child suffers from anxiety with new faces and would benefit from you being available, we do offer Private Kids Craft Tuition in our Kintore studio. You then have the option to drop off and run an errand, or take a seat on our comfy couch. We also offer Parent & Child sessions to build their confidence in a safe environment and give you the opportunity to craft happy memories together.

I can't find the answer to my question. What do I do?

No problem. Please feel free to contact us via the website or email info@craftsummore.com direct.
