Private Kids Lessons
Do you do private lessons?
Yes, we provide Private Kids Craft Tuition for kids and Private Parent and Child Craft Tuition. We also provide One-to-one Craft Tuition for adults.
What days are these lessons?
We run a calendar booking system, allowing you to pick a date and time that works for you.
Do you teach kids to knit or crochet?
We teach both knitting and crochet. We are accredited Knitting For All teachers.
As well as our private kids lessons, we run a number of group after school classes too.
What age must my child be to attend classes?
Our Private Kids Craft Tuition sessions go from P3 to S6. Our Private Parent and Child Craft Tuition sessions can start from P1 if you think they will manage, however in our experience they are far more capable from P3.
How big are the private classes?
Our private classes can cater for up to 6 siblings or friends, while our parent & child classes cater for 1 adult and up to 5 kids.
What do they need to bring with?
When booking a private class, you have the option to include materials or bring your own. We recommend including materials for the first few weeks. Once it's clear they are keen to continue with classes and they've mastered the basics of using their tools, we'll send you recommendations for materials to buy.
They can bring a water bottle along, but please keep the juice and snacks at home. Sticky juice spills, melted chocolate, and yarn don't go well together.
How do the lessons work?
We follow a program called “Kids Knit”. It's a professionally designed course run after school and suitable for homeschooling. It encourages children to progress quickly in their knitting AND crochet skills, immediately building confidence and enthusiasm. We prefer to work with natural fibres and materials, on projects that are targeted to their level of knitting or crochet to build a solid foundation of skills.
Each session is an hour long. During the first 2 - 3 lessons we complete small projects that can be made in one sitting. These cover the basic stitches and quickly build confidence. We then move onto slightly bigger projects that may take 2 - 3 lessons to complete. These projects give them the ability to practice the basics and fine tune their technique.
Do I need to book a block of sessions?
Not at all. The beauty of these sessions is you get to decide when you want to attend. It’s a pay-as-you-go situation.
What about safety?
Your child’s safety is of utmost importance to us. For this reason we have drawn up some Safety Rules for them to follow to ensure they have a good time in class. Please take a moment to go through them with your child before they arrive for their class.
All teachers hold current PVG Certificates and are fully insured. We carry out risk assessments at all our venues. However our teachers DO NOT have first aid certificates. If you are at all concerned that your child might get into medical difficulties because of serious allergies, asthma or other medical conditions, they should not come to the class.
Where are these classes held?
We do private lessons in our studio in Kintore, Aberdeenshire.
Can we just drop off kids?
You have the option to drop off and run an errand, or join us and take a seat on our comfy couch while they craft.
What happens if I'm running late to pick up?
Craft sum More is not responsible for your child out with class times. Your child should arrive on time (not early) and should be collected on time. If the person who is collecting your child is going to be a few minutes late, please let us know as soon as possible. Where a child is not collected from a class after 15 minutes, Social Services will be called to take responsibility for the child.
I can't find the answer to my question. What do I do?
No problem. Please feel free to contact us via the website or email info@craftsummore.com direct.
